Dodgers Injury News: Dave Roberts Provides Updates on JD Martinez, Yency Almonte, Shelby Miller
The Dodgers have had a great August, but they will get back both J.D. Martinez and Shelby Miller back soon. Yency Almonte, however, remains two to three weeks away as he recovers from a knee injury.
On Tuesday, Martinez will pick up a bat for the first time in 10 days. If everything goes well, Martinez can be activated at the start of the next road trip. He won’t need a rehab assignment. The Dodgers miss Martinez’s production in the middle of the lineup, and they will need him in the postseason.
When Miller went on the IL in early June, he was one of the most reliable relievers in the Dodger bullpen. He had a pinched nerve in his neck that took forever to heal.
Miller should be back sometime during this week. If he can regain his dominant self before the postseason, the Dodgers will have another good right-handed reliever.
The story about Almonte is different from the other Dodger injured players. On August 12, Almonte suffered a sprained right knee. He has been in Arizona trying to rehabilitate the troublesome knee.
He will be out two to three weeks before he can return to the active roster. This means Almonte might not be ready for the NLDS. He has had a poor season with a 5.06 ERA, and most Dodger fans don’t want to see Almonte on the mound in a crucial situation during the postseason.
These injured Dodgers should help their team fight for the best record in the National League.
