Dodgers: Justin Turner Still Fails To Answer Looming Manager Question
It's been a little over a month since Justin Turner and Boston officially inked a deal for the 2023 season and some of us are still mourning his loss.
The longtime Dodger not only was an iconic figure on the field but he was also heavily involved in the city of Los Angeles, acted as a strong voice of leadership in the dugout, and also shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
But when that day comes that he's ready to hang up the shoes and kiss his playing days goodbye, Dodgers fans have already decided on the perfect job for JT and it's coming back to Los Angeles to be a manager one day.
Although he's been pretty consistent in recent years (literally batting the same average of .278 in 2022 and 2021), he's still nearing the end of his playing days. The former Dodgers infielder is now 38 years old and will most likely only play a few more years before pulling the plug.
And many fans, not only LA fans but also around the MLB thought he would for sure retire as a Dodger but everyone was shocked when the Dodgers declined his $16 million 2023 club option back in November.
Then came the signing of J.D. Martinez from the Red Sox which meant Turner's fate was pretty much written in the stars.
A few weeks after, he struck a deal with Boston which was a one-year contract for the 2023 season, with a player option for 2024.
He will look to join utility man Kiké Hernández and closer Kenley Jansen who he won the 2020 World Series with. Additionally, he will also reunite with former Dodgers teammates Alex Verdugo and Chris Martin in Boston.
JT, thank you for spending the past nine years with us in Los Angeles. The door is always open for you to come back (at least in my eyes) and we hope you do consider that manager role one day.
