Dodgers Make Roster Move As Mookie Betts Leaves Team For a Few Games
The Dodgers made an interesting roster move on Tuesday, ahead of their game against the New York Mets. The team called up utility man Luke Williams, and made him active for Tuesday's game. However, it's not for the reason you think.
While it seemed to be because of the Chris Taylor injury, that wasn't the case. Rather, it was because Mookie Betts was being placed on the paternity list, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Betts will be on the list for up to three days, meaning Williams will get a mini opportunity with the club. And with Taylor injured for at least the next few days, Williams could get a real opportunity to play.
Williams has been raking in Triple-A to start the 2023 season. In 66 plate appearances, he's slashing .375/.455/.696 with two home runs and 13 RBIs. He also has eight doubles, two triples and seven walks.
Williams can play everywhere on the baseball diamond except catcher, so he'll be able to provide a ton of versatility and optionality in the lineup.
Williams isn't in the lineup on Tuesday, but there's a good chance we see him in there soon. And if Taylor ends up being out for an extended period of time, Williams will get a real opportunity to contribute.
As for the other news, best of luck to Mookie and his wife, Brianna, as they expect their second child!
