Dodgers Mookie Betts is Enjoying Playing Alongside Angels Mike Trout in WBC
Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts has spent the last 10 days or so with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. He's having the time of his life, and has helped lead the Americans to the quarterfinal round.
One of the main reasons Betts is in this tournament in the first place is because of Mike Trout. The Angels superstar is not only the captain of the American team, but he also did a ton of the recruiting.
Betts is grateful that Trout recruited him, because if not, he would have missed out on this incredible experience. He told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic just how much fun he's having being there.
"This is so much fun,” Betts said. "This is way better than getting four at-bats on the back fields (in spring training). I encourage those who are watching to come play for Team USA."
After USA's most recent win over Colombia that sent them into the quarterfinal round, Betts was asked about playing with Trout. He said despite playing in the same city (ish) as Trout, he rarely gets to see him. That makes this experience even that much more special.
"It’s a lot of fun," Betts said to Jon Morosi about playing with Trout. "We’re only 45 minutes apart but it seems like we never see each other and never really get to interact, so being on the same side finally, it’s just fun. I really appreciate everything he’s done for the game and everything he does. He’s just fun to play with."
Betts and Trout will be hoping to play a few more games together in this tournament. Their next game is the quarterfinal matchup against Venezuela on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. PST.
Hopefully they have three more wins in them.
