Dodgers News: Andre Jackson DFA'd, LA Calls Up World Series Champion Pitcher

The Dodgers called up a recently signed veteran to the big club.

The Dodgers are adding another reinforcement to their bullpen, this one with MLB experience under his belt.

Los Angeles called up Ryan Brasier from Triple-A OKC on Tuesday, per The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.

As part of the transaction, pitcher Andre Jackson was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Brasier.

In contrast to the team's recent youth movement of late, Brasier has a wealth of big league experience under his belt, including in big games.

Brasier was a part of the Boston Red Sox World Series title-winning team in 2018 and pitched at Fenway Park for six seasons before being released this season.

The 35-year-old has a 4.45 ERA over the course of his MLB career, including a career best mark over a full season of 1.60 in the championship season in 2018.

He struggled in 2023 with Boston though, posting a career high ERA of 7.28 in 20 appearances before he was released.

After that, he signed a deal with the Dodgers and was assigned to OKC, where he didn't allow a run over three innings spanning two outings.

As for a quick scouting report, he's mainly a fastball and slider pitcher. His fastball sits in the mid 90's while his slider sits around 85 MPH, and that breaking ball could prove to be a weapon as opponents only hit .171 off it over his time with Boston this season.

So Brasier will be the next pitcher the Dodgers will trot out of that revolving bullpen door, and the hope for the team is that he'll be one that can provide much needed consistency for a relief unit that ranks 29th in the majors with a 5.04 ERA -- a much uncharacteristic standing for a unit that had been a strength for the franchise.
