Dodgers News: Caleb Ferguson Officially Placed on Paternity, LA Recalls Lefty Reliever
Today the Dodgers announced that LHP Caleb Ferguson has officially been placed on the paternity list as he prepares to welcome his first child. While he's away from the team, lefty reliever Justin Bruihl is back on the roster for the first time in a couple weeks.
Ferguson's absence from the team was expected as he had already flown back to Los Angeles on Monday before the game against Milwaukee. Additionally, he had pitched in two consecutive games against the Padres so he was down on Monday either way.
The veteran Ferguson has been a standout in the bullpen this season, posting a lights-out 1.26 ERA over 15 appearances. He's struck out 14 batters.
Meanwhile, Justin Bruihl is returning to the team for the second time this season. During his first stint, he allowed just one run over five innings.
As per the paternity leave policy, Ferguson can be away from the team for a maximum of three days. By living in a gray area on Monday, the Dodgers bought Caleb an extra day to be with his family and wife Carissa, who is already a few days past her due date.
The Dodgers have two more games left to play against Milwaukee before they have a day off on Thursday. They then return to their home field in Dodger Stadium for a six-game homestand that starts with a series against the San Diego Padres. It is expected that Ferguson will rejoin the team by then.
