Dodgers News: Daniel Hudson 'Undecided' on Future as Injuries Pile Up
As the Dodgers officially move past the postseason and set their sights on rebounding in the 2024 season, finding solid middle reliever options will be a vital part of their offseason process.
Pitcher Daniel Hudson could have been a solid late-game option in 2023, but he sprained his MCL just three appearances after returning from a torn ACL in his other knee.
In his three games, spanning from Jun3 30 to July 5, Hudson held runners to just two hits and three walks with five strikeouts in three innings. Strong numbers, but an almost negligible sample size.
Now, at age 36, Hudson will have a decision to make. After working so hard to return from an ACL tear only to suffer yet another injury, Hudson's body could be betraying him. If he comes back next season, there is a chance that he could once again miss significant time.
Not only will Hudson have to decide if he would like to return to LA, the Dodgers will also have to decide if they want to pick up his $6.5 million option. Hudson is a great clubhouse addition and solid when he plays, but obviously has proven to be a risky signing considering his injury history.
Hudson has spent 14 years in Major League Baseball with a 3.79 career ERA. His best season came in the Nationals' 2019 World Series run, in which he made 24 appearances and held a 1.44 ERA and 0.88 WHIP.
The Dodgers will have five days after the conclusion of the World Series before they have to make a decision on Hudson and the rest of their player options — but Hudson may ultimately be the one making the decision if he elects retirement.
