Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Confirms NLDS Game 3 Starter, Rest of Pitching Plan for LA
The Los Angeles Dodgers will hope to enter Game 3 of the NLDS in a 1-1 series split. After losing Game 1 in embarrassing fashion on Saturday night, it'll be up to rookie RHP Bobby Miller to get them back on track in Game 2.
After Miller, though, there were tons of questions regarding LA's pitching plan. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts didn't want to confirm his Game 3 starter for the last few days, but on Monday, he finally revealed who would be starting that crucial game. And it's none other than veteran RHP Lance Lynn.
"As I sit here right now I don’t see it being anyone outside of Lance (Lynn)," Roberts said to reporters on Monday.
While Lynn is going to get the start, Roberts did add that rookie RHP Ryan Pepiot would factor into the plan, too. It remains to be seen exactly how long Lynn goes, but with Pepiot factoring in after him, I wouldn't expect Lynn to go more than four innings unless he's absolutely dealing.
Roberts has already made it clear that he's not going to leave starters in for very long, so Lynn and Pepiot each going three or four innings seems to make the most sense assuming both pitch well.
Lynn has struggled in his postseason career, sporting a 5.28 ERA in 58 innings pitched. However, the Dodgers will be relying on him to come up huge in what will certainly be a must-win Game 3 — and potentially even an elimination game if LA loses Game 2 on Monday night.
The biggest question has finally been answered, though. It'll be Lance Lynn taking the mound to start Game 3 of the NLDS in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
