Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Proud of LA's Ability to Beat Opponents in Different Ways
For any team, finding different ways to win games is crucial. It normally determines which clubs are championship-level squads because come playoff time, things can get tight. Teams can no longer expect to play in the same manner that they did during the regular season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers know this all too well, as recent playoffs have shown them that they need to adjust in a playoff series. But this 2023 version of LA seems to have figured out something that previous teams haven't. And that is how to win games in multiple ways.
Manager Dave Roberts spoke on this and how proud he is of his club.
“Right now we’re in that mode of we just know how to win, we’re finding ways to win baseball games,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Whether it’s a great pitching performance or a big hit late or pouring it offensively … ultimately, every night, we feel like we’re gonna score more runs than the other team.”
Per The LA Times
The team has found success in a different way this season. They have relied upon strong offense to carry their questionable pitching. But they also have shown the ability to win close, grind-it-out games, as well. That is the true testament to the winning culture of this organization
They don't have to rely on home runs to win games but rather a collective of ways. It has been awesome to see and has resulted in LA jumping up the standings. On Saturday night, LA was locked in a close game with the Colorado Rockies before they opened the game up. Roberts gave his thoughts on how the team looked.
“It was a tight ballgame that could have gone either way,” Roberts said. “Then we [get a walk, some hit-by-pitches], and some big hits when we need them. Offensively, we just kind of hang in there, and if you give us an opportunity, we’re going to take advantage.”
The Dodgers have seen performances from many different people this year, including outfielder David Peralta. The team likely didn't expect Peralta to be as effective as he has been, but they are thankful for him. He spoke about the team after the win over the Rockies.
"The chemistry we've got. The approach we've got. We never give up, we always fight every single at-bat. We trust everyone."
Per SNLA
It's a good group of players together that are working towards a common goal. Things seem to be clicking right now for the Dodgers and that is a great thing.
The team continues their series against the Colorado Rockies before continuing a nice, long homestand.
