Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Provides Update on Injured RHP Michael Grove
Dodgers RHP Michael Grove left Thursday's start against the Cubs early due to injury. He was pulled in the 4th inning, after seeming to hurt something in his right leg.
It didn't take long for the Dodgers to send out an update on Twitter, and they said that Grove suffered a right groin strain.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update after the game, and it wasn't good news for anyone. Roberts said Grove is going to be heading to the injured list, meaning he'll be out for the next couple weeks.
"From what I heard it was a three out of 10," Roberts said, "but when you’re talking about a pitcher, you’re talking about that particular part of the body, he’s obviously gonna be an IL, so we gotta figure out our next steps."
Roberts added that Grove got hurt after slipping in warm ups, but said he was good to go. However, the injury flared back up in the 4th inning, ending his night early.
Grove spoke to reporters, too, and didn't seem to be too concerned with the injury.
"It’s something I felt pregame and just kind of went on with it," Grove said. "It loosened up and then I felt it again during the game. They just didn’t want to take any chances. It’s nothing crazy, just a little groin strain."
Grove was filling in for RHP Ryan Pepiot in the starting rotation, who was supposed to take RHP Tony Gonsolin's spot, also injured. That means, when Grove goes on the IL, the Dodgers will be on their fourth option for the No. 5 spot, unless the Dodgers rush Gonsolin back after just one rehab start.
If Gonsolin doesn't get rushed back, the Dodgers could turn to RHP Andre Jackson, who could pitch the first few innings of a bullpen game. The Dodgers could also call someone like RHP Gavin Stone up, but that feels unlikely at this point, too.
Hopefully Grove gets better soon, but it doesn't sound like he'll be back with the Dodgers in the immediate future.
