The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to 5-3 on the year so far after Friday night's loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was a result of many mistakes in the latter innings of the game but majority of the blame was geared towards the bullpen, a growing issue within the organization.

Even in the team's win over Arizona just the night before, the relief pitchers struggled to carry on the same energy that was left for them.

Dustin May took the mound for just the second time this season and put another masterclass performance. He went six innings and only allowed two hits and one run. Five batters also struck out at his hands and the Dodgers were enjoying a 5-1 lead.

However, Phil Bickford, Alex Vesia, and Yency Almonte all got themselves in situations down the stretch that cut LA's lead down to just three and have the Diamondbacks opportunities to either tie the game or take the lead completely.

Team manager Dave Roberts spoke to the LA Times about the bullpen moving forward and how he plans to approach their improvements.

"We’re still trying to find our footing,” said Roberts.. “I know it’s not about a role thing or where guys are pitching. I think individually, you can look at them and each guy is sort of trying to figure some things out."

"But, to their credit,” said Roberts, “they’re still being productive, and that’s most important right now."

Obviously, it is still very early into the season and everybody is still getting settled into their roles but a strong bullpen goes a super long way. They do not want to ruin an All-Star level performance from Dustin May.
