When the Dodgers signed Jason Heyward last November to a Minor League contract, no Dodger fan thought they would be worrying about his status in July. Once again, baseball proves to be unpredictable.

Sunday Heyward exited the game with a neck injury. After the game, Dave Roberts updated the media about Heyward’s status.

“It was kind of like a stinger,” Roberts said. “I think in 2021, he had a little concussion scare. So that’s why we are sensitive to that. I think the neck started to stiffen up a little bit. I think right now it’s day to day.”

Thankfully it wasn't too much of an issue as he was back in the lineup in Baltimore. Heyward has become one of the main offensive contributors at the bottom of the lineup. This season, after he underperformed with the Chicago Cubs, he has a .251 batting average with 8 home runs and 22 RBI.

Heyward’s reemergence enabled the Dodgers to play Mookie Betts at second base, a position he loves. Since he is an excellent person, he has become a leader in the Dodger clubhouse. His help to rookie James Outman has been well-publicized. For the last seventeen years, Heyward has been Freddie Freeman’s best friend, and this friendship helped the Dodgers to acquire Heyward.

The Dodgers’ batting coaches helped Hayward to remove the bandaids on his batting stance. Now he is using a batting stance similar to the one he had as a rookie with the Atlanta Braves. Heyward’s unexpected offensive production helped the Dodgers to be in the first place in the National League Western Division.
