Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Won’t Make Postseason Decisions Until NLDS Opponent Finalized

October will have to wait.

Though the team has already clinched the NL West crown in a familiar outcome for fans and the organization as a whole, Dave Roberts knows the work isn't done yet for the Dodgers in 2023. 

Awaiting who comes out of the divisional series as he did last season, the LA skipper mentioned the pitching corps needing extra attention based on who the team will face in just a few weeks. 

“Each game we’re starting to gather more information on these guys. The position player side, it seems a little bit more straightforward. But with the pitching, I think sort of by performance, by default, it’s becoming pretty clear as well. But there’s still going to be some tougher conversations that we still have time to kind of evaluate. And those conversations wont happen until, we have plenty of time because even during the (Wild Card) series and figuring out opponents, so we got time.”

Unwilling to guarantee another World Series win as he did last season, Roberts is keeping his head down and his mouth shut in his patient approach to the postseason this year. 

Embarrassingly flaming out in the divisional round to their NL West rival in the Padres, the Dodgers don't have their Southern California foe to worry about this season. 

Likely facing either the Cubs, Reds or Brewers in their first series this year, any of these NL Central opponent will pose differing challenges for the Dodgers. 

Roberts, to his credit, has navigated the regular season masterfully amidst many injuries and off the field concerns in the pitching ranks, but the regular season is simply a formality for Los Angeles under this current regime. 

When it comes to championship expectations, the Dodgers are near the top of the list and it'll be up to Roberts and his pitching staff management to get the job done in 2023.
