Dodgers News: Emmet Sheehan Will Remain in Starting Rotation For Now
Since joining the Dodgers over a week ago, rookie pitcher Emmet Sheehan has looked like a seasoned veteran. In his first two career starts, Sheehan has dominated both the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros. Against San Francisco, he went six innings of no hit ball before being taken out. In his second start against Houston, he held the defending champions to just two runs over six innings.
His performances have earned him at least another chance to remain in the rotation as manager Dave Roberts announced.
With the way that he has pitched, the Dodgers can't justify sending him back down to Triple-A. LA needs all the help that they can get in the rotation right now, especially as they deal with some injuries to other players.
Once the Dodgers get some of their guys back from injury, they could send Sheehan down to Triple-A just for some extra work. But the rookie doesn't seem to be thinking about any of that and has just focused on the task at hand.
Sheehan has looked calm and collected on the mound in his limited time and the Dodgers rightfully are giving him another chance.
Sheehan has surprised many with his domination over the first two starts but he is just another example of the Dodgers' strong farm system. For a guy who made the jump straight from Double-A to the big leagues, he hasn't shown any signs of nervousness and has shown that he belongs as a Major League pitcher.
His next scheduled start should be next weekend on the road in Kansas City and if he finds success again, he could be up in the show for good.
