Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Believes Team is 'Too Good' to Struggle This Bad

The Dodgers are trying to stay positive but it's sounding harder and harder through this prolonged rough patch.
In this story:

The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost 3 games in a row, 10 of 15 in June and 18 of their last 30. So, naturally, fans are panicking over the now third place ballclub. In recent years, the team has certainly gone through worse stretches of play.

In 2021, the Dodgers went through a 5-15 stretch early in the season. In 2017 the club lost 22 of their last 35 games and still made it to the World Series. Teams go through stretches like this. But that potential light at the end of the tunnel doesn't make the way things are going now feel any less frustrating.

“It’s not the ideal situation right now," first baseman Freddie Freeman said. "It’s hard to even put into words. Every day we come in with the right attitude. … And every day it’s another loss right now. It’s one of these trying points in the season where you have to grind, keep coming every single day to show up, and expect to win. Our team is way too good to go through this stretch.”

In the past, it would be easier to swallow the idea that the team was too good to be this bad for a stretch like this. But this is the team that let guys like Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Tyler Anderson, and others sign with different teams. And this is the team that sat by and watched while contenders around the league added top talent in free agency over the offseason.

Said another way, this club isn't as good as past iterations. Still, it has the parts in place to be successful. We've seen it play out through multiple winning streaks that, at one point, saw the Dodgers have the best record in the National League.

And that just may be what is making it that much more frustrating. These Dodgers have been good this year.

“I can’t tell you a specific answer of why this is happening,” Freeman said. “It’s just, we need to stop it and play better. That’s pretty much it. We got beat at home, swept three games, and Tuesday we need to start playing better.”

Los Angeles is off on Monday before heading to Anaheim for two games against the Angels. Clayton Kershaw will look to get things back on track.
