Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Exits Game Early After Hit By Pitch

Freddie gets a few innings off his feet after getting drilled.

Freddie Freeman is out of the game after being hit on the right leg with a pitch in the 7th inning of the Dodgers vs Phillies game. Freeman was clipped by an 89 mph slider just above the right ankle and stayed in the game to eventually score on a J.D. Martinez home run. However, when the Dodgers came back out on defense in the bottom of the 7th, Jason Heyward was playing first base.

In this case, it feels like it's more of situation of getting Freddie off his feet for a few innings in the middle of a long season and long road trip. The Dodgers had a 9-0 lead in the game at the time of his exit, which should be enough for the victory, even with Andre Jackson coming into the game following 6 shutout innings by rookie Bobby Miller.

Freeman was 1-2 with a walk and the hit by pitch in the game. On the season, he's hitting .336 with a .986 OPS, tops in the National League.

At the same time as his exit, Mookie Betts also came out of the game and was replaced at second base by Miguel Vargas, painting more of a picture of Dave Roberts getting his stars off their feet and nothing to do with Freddie getting hit by the pitch.

The Dodgers are en route to their 37th win of the season.
