Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Reacts to Long-Awaited 200 Hit Season
For the first time in his career, Freddie Freeman has eclipsed 200 hits amidst an MVP-caliber 2023 season.
With a .334 batting average, Freeman will likely finish the season sporting the most consistent performance at the plate out of any of year in his 14-year career. His 201 hits on the season are the second-highest in Major League Baseball, behind Ronald Acuna Jr. (209). Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez is tied with Freeman at 201.
Freeman's 200th hit came in the first inning in the Dodgers 5-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants Friday night, singling to right field. His 201st hit scored the Dodgers' lone run of the night.
After the game Freeman emphasized that the game meant more than any career accomplishment, but that the moment was still pretty special for the 34-year-old.
"I haven't really given it that much thought yet, especially mid-game, we were trying to win the game and now we lost. But I've always had sights set on it. But 200 means that you're in there a lot, you're healthy and playing every day and you ultimately had a pretty good year, so 200 is definitely pretty cool."

As the regular season is almost over, it is unlikely that Freeman's excellent season will earn him his second National League Most Valuable Player award, as Atlanta's Acuna Jr. seems to have the award on lock at this point.
However, the incredible run Freeman has had in 2023 is not lost on the 2020 NL MVP.
"I do understand that it's been a pretty good year from start to finish. We still have nine games left so hopefully we can add on to it," Freeman said.
