Dodgers News: Freddie Freemans Becomes 4th Player Ever to Accomplish Incredible Feat
Freddie Freeman has entered his name into the history books.
That is a sentence already said multiple times this year for Freeman but it has happened again after recording his 20th stolen base of the year on Monday night.
Freeman has been on a tear this year and, in his age 34 season, may be having his best year yet.
In 2023, Freeman is currently hitting an amazing .335 average with a .983 OPS. The amazing year goes alongside his dominant numbers with 26 home runs, 196 hits, 93 RBIs, 55 doubles, and now, 20 stolen bases.
This feat has not happened in 17 years since Grady Sizemore accomplished it in 2006.
The stolen base numbers may be due to the bigger bases implemented this year that have seen the number of stolen bases go way up, but the hitting feat to go along with it shows how complete Freeman has been for the Dodgers every game of the season.
While Freeman is not the big character with bat flips after hitting home runs, he is the model of consistency that many players aspire to be.
Freeman's worst month this year saw him hit a .255 average and a .791 OPS. That is a season-long statline many would be proud of owning.
Mookie Betts may also be having a historic year and garnering a lot of the MVP popularity, but Freeman is right there next to him in terms of numbers and impact on the Dodgers.
The former MVP recently broke the franchise record for doubles in a single season hitting his 53rd double on September 8th.
Sitting at 55 doubles on the year, Freeman has 13 more games to hit 5 doubles and hit 60, which has not been done since 1936.
Whether he does it or not, Freeman is focused on the postseason where he plans to help the Dodgers win another World Series in four years and his first with the team since signing in 2022.
