Dodgers News: Gavin Lux Finally Watched His Injury Play After Vowing He Wouldn't
He said he wouldn't. He vowed he would never. But Gavin Lux finally watched the freak play that cost him his 2023 season. Injured Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux paid a visit to the team as they came back to Los Angeles to face the Angeles. He caught up with reporters about the last few weeks of his life since undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.
Life, as you can imagine, is pretty terrible for Gavin these days, forced to watch the season from the sidelines when he was supposed to be one of the key players for his club this year. So that was the obvious part of his chat with local media. But, he also shared that he finally watched the replay of his injury after his surgeon, Dr. Neal El Attrache told him he should.
“It was nasty. It really looked gross, kind of freaky. I remember I just kind of tried to duck out of the way and I stumbled a little bit and straightened my leg weird, I knew right away something was wrong.”
The injury occurred early in the Cactus League season against the Padres in Peoria. Lux was running to third base and awkwardly maneuvered out of the way of a throw from the third baseman. He extended and planted on his right leg the wrong way and was carted off the field fearing the worst.
He says he'll be spending the next few months playing video games and keeping on top of his physical therapy. If all goes well, he should be ready to go for the start of spring training in 2024.
