Dodgers News: How are Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger and More Former LA Players Doing This Season
As the MLB season approaches the All-Star Break, now is a good time to check in on how former Dodgers have been doing around the league.
This past offseason saw many fan favorites depart from the team. Some of these players include: Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner, Trea Turner and more.
Few have had a better bounce back season in the league this year than Cody Bellinger.
In his final year with the team, Bellinger had a .210 average and a .654 OPS. His main struggle last season was stikreouts. In 550 plate appearances, Bellinger struck out 150 times.
The Dodgers let him walk in free agency and the Cubs picked him up on a one-year, $17.5 million contract.
Since moving to Chicago, Bellinger has figured out his strikeout problem and is getting on base more. In 174 plate appearances, Bellinger is hitting .260 with an OPS over .800.
He has also only struck out 35 times which is on pace to be way lower than his 2022 total.
Bellinger is now looking to be a top trade deadline target for contenders as the Cubs look to be sellers this season.
Another player that was on the Dodgers 2020 World Series roster that moved on this past offseason was Justin Turner.
Turner is the everyday third baseman for the Red Sox, after signing a one-year, $15 million contract during the winter.
The veteran is putting up similar numbers as he was in Los Angeles, hitting .277 with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs in 69 games this season.
The biggest departure for the Dodgers, however, was Trea Turner. The shortstop was one of the most sought after free agents this offseason and signed a 11-year/$300 million deal with the Phillies.
For being one of the best free agents on the market, Turner hasn't panned out exactly how the Phillies expected him to so far.
As the starting shortstop in Philadelphia, Turner is only hitting .247 with 7 home runs and 22 RBIs. In the first half of last season, Turner was hitting over .300 with 14 home runs and 68 RBIs.
The Phillies are hoping that Turner can return to the star player he was the past couple of seasons with both the Dodgers and Nationals.
Another fan favorite that has been away from the Dodgers for a couple years is Kenley Jansen. Since he left Los Angeles, Jansen has closed games for both the Red Sox and Braves.
In the two years since he's left, Jansen has saved 56 games in 66 opportunities.
Jansen also made history earlier this year when he became the seventh pitcher ever to record 400 career saves. When he completed the achievement back in May, many of his former Dodger teammates recorded videos congratulating the closer on his accomplishment.
Finally, one of the key contributors to the 2020 World Series, Joc Pederson, has revitalized his career after leaving the Dodgers.
In 2021, Pederson signed with the Cubs and was traded to Atlanta where he helped the team win its first World Series since 1995.
Pederson would go back to his hometown team and sign with the Giants in the 2021-22 offseason.
Since he's gotten to San Fransisco, Pederson has been one of the team's best sluggers hitting 30 homers and 95 RBIs in the first year and a half in the Bay Area.
