Dodgers News: LA Adds Former Red Sox Reliever on Minor League Deal

The Dodgers are taking a flier on another bullpen piece.

The Los Angeles Dodgers made some news yesterday when they traded for skilled utility man Kiké Hernandez on Tuesday, but that wasn't the only move they made in recent days, as they acquired more bullpen depth, too.

The Dodgers signed former Boston Red Sox reliever Ryan Sherriff to a minor league deal, and he's been assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, per OKC Dodgers broadcaster Alex Freedman.

This continues the Dodgers' connection with Boston, with Sherriff being the third member of the Red Sox to make the trek west this season, joining Hernandez and bullpen arm Ryan Brasier, the latter of which has paid early dividends for the Dodgers, putting up a 1.20 ERA for LA since his acquisition in June.

Time will tell what impact Sherriff will have on the organization -- whether that'd be in Oklahoma City or Los Angeles -- but after trading Nick Robertson on Tuesday in the Hernandez deal, the big league club has an available spot in their bullpen.

For his part, Sherriff seems rather pleased to be joining the organization.

The Culver City native has had a quality 2023 season, making appearances for both the Red Sox and their Triple-A affiliate in Worcester, Massachusetts.

He put up a 2.82 ERA over 21 outings in Worcester, and improved on that in five appearances with the Red Sox, recording a 2.70 ERA for Boston.

Sherriff will begin his tenure with the Dodgers organization in OKC, but keep an eye out for the 33-year old to potentially join the Los Angeles bullpen if things go well for him in Oklahoma.
