The 2023 season for the Dodgers has been uncharacteristically strange. They are still one of the top teams in the National League and at the All-Star break, they are tied for the lead in the NL West division. But they aren’t as dominant as they have been in recent years and it’s for the most part due to their pitching staff.

The issues that the staff have seen this season have been odd as they’ve dealt with multiple injuries and various cases of inconsistency across the board.

The lack of reliable pitching has caused them to drop games that they had no business losing and it saw them lose ground in the standings. LA’s offense has been picking up the slack but as the team heads towards October, they will need their pitching staff to get things going again.

The Dodgers pitchers have performed a little better of late but they still aren’t up to par with the standard that the team has set for themselves.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report ranked the top 10 pitching staffs across Major League Baseball at the halfway point, with six honorable mentions and the Dodgers didn’t make the cut at all.

LA hasn’t been good enough to even be honorable mentioned and that’s a problem. For a team that normally wins due to their strong pitching, they have had to win in spite of it this season. They have tinkered with different options all year long and it’s been essentially a revolving door of arms coming through the roster.

With the trade deadline coming up, the organization will need to figure out how to upgrade this staff. Will they go all-in and be aggressive? Or will they just add around the margins and hope that their in-house guys figure it out? That remains to be seen but whatever direction the team goes will tell how much they believe in this team.
