Dodgers News: LA Could Get 2 Bullpen Arms Back Soon
The Dodgers bullpen is starting to get healthy as two arms may be coming back from the injured list.
Joe Kelly looks to be returning from the 15-day injured list after he was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation.
The move was retroactive to August 10th, so Kelly has had around four weeks to recover and it looks like he may finally be able to join the pen again. Kelly's initial return was already pushed back, but it seems as though he has finally recovered.
Kelly was brought back to Los Angeles in a trade that also brought Lance Lynn from the Chicago White Sox at this year's trade deadline.
While Lynn has struggled as of late, Kelly looked really good in his four appearances in LA before being put on the injured list. The 2020 Champion is a fan favorite among Dodger fans and Kelly received a warm welcome in his return.
Michael Grove is also close to a return, and is an interesting case since he started the year as a starting pitcher for the Dodgers and made 12 starts, going 2-3 during that span and having an ERA around 7.
Grove was not good as a starter giving up too many hits and home runs, but his stuff was there. He generated a lot of swing and miss, striking out 67 batters in his 64 innings pitched.
Grove made his last "start" against the Padres where he was scheduled to open the game up and then have Ryan Yarbrough pitch the bulk of the middle innings.
He only lasted 1.1 innings due to his injury.
Now returning to the Dodgers, Grove is viewed as a bullpen piece that has good pitches and is able to strike batters out, the hope is he also generates weak contact when the batters don't miss the ball.
At 84-54, the Dodgers will look to get healthy and get ready for a long postseason run.
