As the long MLB season goes on, teams start to rely more heavily on their non-star type of players. It’s not that the stars can’t do it all, but with the overall length of the year, the other players are what really make a team go.

It can be the difference between a good or great team, especially come playoff time. We see it all the time when a non-star gets hot for a certain stretch, or they are the ones to come up with the big hit in a massive game.

For the Dodgers, they have a lot of really good players to surround their stars. It’s a testament to the overall roster construction of the team.

Recently Jim Bowden of The Athletic released who he believes is each playoff team's most indispensable “under the radar” player. Out of all the members on the LA roster, he listed veteran outfielder David Peralta.

“It’s the little things he does to win games — such as situational hitting, smart base running and fundamental defense — that have stood out the most. Everyone talks about what a great teammate he is.”

Per The Athletic

Peralta has been very effective during his time with the team this season. He has helped take them to the next level with his leadership as well.

LA General Manager Brandon Gomes spoke about Peralta and what he brings to the table.

“What David Peralta brings to the table as far as attention to detail, energy in dugout, performing at a high level all around but especially when it comes to situational hitting probably gets masked by some by other big names we have in our lineup. He’s an A+ person and teammate and ‘the grinder mentality’ permeates everyone he’s around.”

Per The Athletic

For the year, he is hitting .271 with seven home runs and 46 runs batted in. It’s been a solid season for the 36-year-old, and he should be playing a key role down the stretch for LA.

Peralta has been in the league a long time, so he has seen a lot. All he has left to do is win a World Series, and wants to help LA get back to the mountaintop.

He has revitalized his career this season with the Dodgers and has been a major asset to everyone. Sometimes it’s the smallest contributions that can go the longest way with a club.
