Dodgers News: LA Officially Places Outfielder on IL, Options Struggling Reliever
The Dodgers announced a series of roster moves on Wednesday ahead of their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.
First, as expected, outfielder Jake Marisnick was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain. Rookie outfielder Jonny DeLuca was recalled from Triple-A to replace him. However, that wasn't the only move.
The Dodgers also recalled LHP Justin Bruihl from Triple-A, and optioned RHP Nick Robertson.
Marisnick went 2-for-5 in limited time with the Dodgers, before unfortunately hearing a pop in his hamstring on Tuesday. He'll now be out for the foreseeable future, which is a huge blow for him and the Dodgers' right-handed bat depth.
DeLuca will get his second opportunity at the big league level to show he belongs. In his first, he appeared in 20 games, hitting .212 with one home run and three runs batted in.
The Dodgers desperately need some depth in the form of a right-handed bat, so DeLuca will get a real opportunity to gain some extra playing time and a longer stay at the MLB level.
On the pitching side of things, the team optioned Robertson, who's struggled mightily at the big league level. In 10.1 innings, he holds a 6.10 ERA and a 2.03 WHIP. The 25-year-old will go back to Triple-A to continue improving as a reliever.
Bruihl will get another opportunity with the big league ball club. On the year, he's made 16 appearances, sporting a 3.72 ERA in 19.1 innings. We'll see if he can add to an improving LA bullpen.
