Dodgers News: Lance Lynn ‘In Play’ to Start Game 3 of NLDS

The game plan is getting set for the Dodgers.
In this story:

File this one under, obviously. On Thursday, Dodgers manager  Dave Roberts continued to stop short of just saying what most assume is going to happen. Lance Lynn will start a postseason game for LA and with Clayton Kershaw and Bobby Miller being named as the games 1 and 2 starters, that leaves game 3 lined up for the veteran right-hander.

In a Zoom call with reporters, Roberts said that Lynn was "in play" to start Wednesday's game 3 in Arizona.

The trade deadline acquisition tossed 4 innings in another intrasquad game at Dodger Stadium on Thursday. In 11 starts after being sent over to the Los Angeles ballclub in a 5 player swap, Lynn posted a 7-2 record with a 4.36 ERA. He had back to back starts at the end of August and into early September where he allowed 15 earned runs over 9 innings, significantly inflating his post-trade ERA.

Eliminate those two starts and he was mostly electric in Dodger blue.

The structure of the NLDS should benefit the Dodgers over the Diamondbacks with days off between games 1 and 2, and 2 and 3. Ace Clayton Kershaw will open the series for LA and isn't expected to pitch much beyond 4 or 5 innings while being backed up rookie options in innings eater roles.

It's far from traditional, but the game plan is set for the Dodgers who look to reach the World Series for the first time since 2020.
