Dodgers News: Max Muncy Goes to IL, Team Announces Huge Roster Changes
Prior to their series opener against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers made a series of roster moves.
Pitcher Micheal Grove was optioned back to Triple-A and rookie Emmet Sheehan was called up to make his Major League debut. Sheehan becomes the seventh player to make his big league debut for the team this season as they have dealt with loads of injuries and an injection of youth to the roster.
Sheehan was actually just called up to Triple-A just a few days ago and now will get a shot in the show. He posted an impressive 1.86 ERA with 88 strikeouts over 53.1 innings in Double-A and will have a chance to make a statement tonight. Sheehan will get a first hand experience in the Dodgers and Giants rivalry and will take center stage.
The other move that the team announced was placing infielder Max Muncy on the injured list and recalling prospect Michael Busch up. The team had hoped that Muncy would avoid time on the injured list but his injury was worse than was being let on. Hopefully, the stay on the list won't be too long and Muncy can get back on the field soon.
Busch now gets a chance to prove himself back in the majors after a short stint with the team earlier this season. During that time, he went 4-for-19 with two runs batted in and a few clutch hits.
He has been killing it in Triple-A however and just won the Minor League Player of the Week award, slashing .500/.533/1.077. He has seven home runs and an OPS of .968 during his time in Triple-A this season.
The youth movement continues for the Dodgers and both of these players should be able to make an impact. For a team that has been struggling of late, this could inject some life into them and maybe help get things running back on track.
