Dodgers News: Max Muncy to Be Limited for Next Few Games
After being hit on the wrist while playing the Oakland Athletics on Thursday, Max Muncy will be limited for the weekend series against the San Diego Padres. According to Dave Roberts, he'll be available to pinch run only.
The Dodgers took x-rays on Muncy’s wrist immediately, which were negative, just a sore wrist.
Even after Muncy returns to the lineup, his offensive production will be decreased. Muncy hasn’t had a great offensive season with a .193 batting average and a .332 on-base percentage. The Dodgers will miss Muncy’s 27 home runs.
On Friday, neither Muncy nor J.D. Martinez were in the starting lineup against the Padres who could get back in the National League Western Division race if they sweep the Dodgers in their 4-game series. Without Muncy and Martinez, the Dodgers will have decreased offensive production.
When Muncy returns to the lineup, his offensive production will be decreased. Hand/wrist injuries to hitters can linger and affect performance. Since the last day of the 2021 season when Muncy suffered a dislocated elbow, he hasn’t been the same player. This wrist injury will decrease his offense for the last two months of the season.
The Dodgers don’t have a true third base backup. True, Chris Taylor, Kiké Hernández, and Amed Rosario can play third base, but they aren’t third basemen. The Dodgers needed an excellent defensive third baseman. When the Dodgers were rumored to be able to get Nolan Arenado, most Dodger fans were excited because Muncy’s defense isn’t the greatest. Michael Busch isn’t a good defensive third baseman.
The Dodgers will miss Muncy.
