Just like in life, baseball can test you. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes it can feel like the world is against you. Dodgers infielder Michael Busch is no different and so far, his 2023 has been somewhat of a whirlwind. But Busch is doing what he can to remain patient and keep his numbers up amid all the ups and downs.

The Dodgers called Busch back up amidst an injury to infielder Max Muncy and now the kid will get to try and prove himself once again.

In the minor leagues, where he has spent most of the year, Busch is hitting .313 with seven home runs and 38 runs batted in. His OPS is .968 and he has been on a tear of late. He won the Minor League Player of the Week award in the Pacific Coast League after posting an incredible .500/.533/1.077 slash line for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Busch talked about staying consistent and doing what he can to help the team.

“I think it’s just consistency for me. I struggled with that a little bit in the past and just trying to stay consistent. You’re going to have your downs, you’re going to have your ebbs and flows. Just trying to bounce out of those as quickly as possible. It’s worked out for me a little bit.”

Busch spent seven games this season with the big league club and had 19 at bats, hitting .211 with two runs batted in. Both he and the Dodgers know that there may be some growing pains and that they are taking things slow.

“There’s big things and little things, I think the little things for me is just having a routine on the on deck circle but also in the box. You know, just before you get in there after a pitch happens, while you’re on deck, kind of just having a routine just to kind of you know you’re doing the same thing every time. For me, I feel like when I get too comfortable sometimes I start to chase a little more so whether it’s good or bad, just trying to stay consistent and just trying to have a routine. I don’t know how much it affects me but just trying to stay in that same zone.”

The Dodgers number three prospect and 40th overall in baseball, Busch showed that he could keep up with the level of talent needed in the majors and just needs more chances to show what he can do. He has his chance with this latest call up and hopefully he can make the most of it.
