Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Addresses Rosario Addition, Playing Time Going Forward
The additions of Kiké Hernàndez and Amed Rosario have affected Miguel Rojas’ playing time.
When the Dodgers acquired Rojas from the Miami Marlins, Andrew Friedman envisioned him filling the utility infield role and a backup to Gavin Lux who was slated to be an everyday shortstop. However, he became the Dodger regular shortstop when Lux blew out his knee.
Never known for his offensive production, Rojas has had better offensive seasons than this. This year, Rojas has a .224 batting average with no home runs, 12 RBI, and .551 OPS. Since Rojas hasn’t been to the World Series during his career, he will do anything the Dodgers want if he has an opportunity to go to the World Series.
“I think we’re getting deeper — that’s the most important part,” Rojas said. “When you’ve been playing shortstop for the last couple of years, it’s really hard to move to another position, but it’s something I have to do.
“I think I have more experience than Amed now, playing second base. Maybe Kiké can play second as well. But tonight he’s playing center. So it’s going to be a dynamic rotation. I feel like the playing time is always going to be there if you continue to do good.” For the first four months of the season, Rojas did what the Dodgers needed after Lux was lost for the season. He will help both Hernàndez and Rosario with their defense. Before spring training, Rojas helped Miguel Vargas to become a great defensive second baseman.
