Dodgers News: MLB Insider Picks Mookie Betts as NL MVP

The super-utility man is making his case for NL MVP!

Mookie Betts is having a career year at the plate currently 3rd in the MLB with a 1.020 OPS. On Tuesday, he set a single-season personal record for home runs hitting his 36th against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After recently becoming the betting favorite to win the NL MVP award, he is now getting the votes of MLB Insiders like Jon Heyman.

The AL MVP is locked up by Shohei Ohtani who leads the MLB in WAR by a considerable margin and is a top-5 player at the plate and on the mound.

The National League race has been a lot closer this year with Ronald Acuña Jr. being the favorite for most of the year hitting an impressive .335 batting average with a .988 OPS. The outfielder in Atlanta also leads the Majors in stolen bases with an impressive 61 bags.

However, Mookie Betts has recently come into the conversation after having a historic month of August hitting .452 with a 1.316 OPS and 9 home runs. While many thought that Mookie was just having a hot month, most baseball fans did not realize that Betts has been hitting over a .300 batting average and a 1.000 OPS the last three months of the season.

His 2023 numbers now sit at a .314 average with a 1.020 OPS, 36 home runs, and 94 RBIs from the leadoff spot of one of the best teams in the MLB.

Betts is also second in the MLB with a 7.4 WAR behind Ohtani's outstanding 10. The Wins Above Replacement stat also has Betts over Acuña Jr. by a 0.9 margin.

Betts is currently the betting favorite and is now starting to really win over the analysts and insiders with his amazing play at the plate while also providing plus defense from the outfield and the middle infield.
