Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Didn’t Want to Be Traded to LA in 2020
Dodgers Outfielder, Mookie Betts, has had an illustrious tenure so far with the Dodgers that will surely lead him into Cooperstown.
But what if we told you he didn't want to come to Los Angeles in the first place?
In an interview with Youtube Show "Foul Territory", Mookie Betts discussed a number of topics that included the comparison between life in Boston vs life in LA, and how he truly felt during the contract discussions with the Dodgers.
Betts expressed his true desires were to stay in Boston for the rest of his career.
“I know people don’t believe it, but I wanted to stay in Boston my whole career,” Betts said. “That was my life. I knew everybody there. It was a short flight to Nashville. It was perfect.”

This story comes as a surprise as the seven-time All-Star signed one of the biggest contracts in Baseball history - a 12-year/$365 million deal that includes a $65 million signing bonus and some deferred cash from 2033-2044 ($115 million, to be exact).
Despite signing this deal with the Dodgers back in 2021, Betts says that if the Boston Red Sox offered the same amount of money, he would most likely have stayed.
“100 percent. But that didn’t happen... It is what it is. But when that move happened I was sad... I was like, ‘Man I don’t wanna go out West."

All in all, Betts LA experience has given him a different perspective and grand time overall.
"It was actually kind of a blessing in disguise. My family loves it. It’s a different way of life. The weather is beautiful. You never have to worry about the hot sticky stuff or the freezing cold and everything up in Boston. Being in L.A. has been awesome. I’m really happy.”
