Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Makes a Big Announcement Weeks Before the MLB All-Star Game
The MLB All-Star weekend is rapidly approaching. Voting is already well underway, as the Midsummer Classic is just three weeks away.
The Dodgers had a great showing in the first ballot returns, with four Dodgers set to head to the final round of All-Star starter voting and a few others not far behind.
One of those Dodgers was, of course, Mookie Betts, who is having another MVP caliber season in Los Angeles early this year. Betts is as close to a lock to make the All-Star team as there can be, which is great news for multiple reasons.
First, it's always nice to have your superstars represented, and Betts is sure to be there for the seventh time in his career. However, secondly, Betts was recently on the MLB Network, and made a huge announcement regarding MLB's All-Star weekend.
"I’m doing the Home Run Derby too, you got any advice for me?," Betts said to Harold Reynolds. "Imma do it, Imma do it, Imma do it. As long as I’m an All-Star. I gotta be an All-Star first and then Imma do it."
That should definitely get people to vote even more for Betts for the game, but either way, he was going to be an All-Star this season. But now, fans have to make sure they're doing everything they can to get Betts into the game, because it would be must-see television to see him in a Home Run Derby.
Betts has never participated in the event, but over the last few years, has found a new power stroke in his swing.
Last year, Betts set a career-high with 35 home runs, and this year, he's on pace to hit that number again.
The last Dodger to participate in a Home Run Derby was Joc Pederson in 2019. He put on an absolute show against Vladimir Guerrero Jr. that year, and Betts will look to do the same this year in Seattle.
