Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Thinks Power Surge is to Quiet His Own Doubts About Home Run Derby
As the All-Star break approaches, Mookie Betts seems to be getting ready for his appearance in the Home Run Derby. He has been on a tear of late, hitting .365 with eight home runs and 18 runs batted in over his last 15 games. This power surge he has provided has been a big reason as to why the Dodgers have started to play like themselves lately and the hope is that Betts can keep this going.
After the victory on Friday night against the Angels, Betts spoke with SportsNet LA reporter Kristen Watson and gave his thoughts on the recent hot streak.
“It’s the best I’ve felt in a long time… I’m just gonna ride the wave and see what happens.”
Per SNLA
Betts has been one of the team MVPs this season as he has been consistent throughout the year even while the team has seen all sorts of different issues. For the season he is hitting .277 with 25 home runs and 61 runs batted in. He has a slugging percentage of .581 and an OPS of .959 so it's safe to say that he is killing the baseball this season.
Before his first ever Home Run Derby, Betts has said that his recent power may be coming from his own self doubt about how he will perform in the festivities. He has said that he just doesn't want to embarrass himself which isn't likely to happen knowing how Betts is.
The hope is that Betts can continue this hot streak even post Home Run Derby and help the team to keep winning games. He is as an important of a player to the success of the Dodgers organization as anyone and the team goes as he does.
Look for Betts to display his power in the Home Run Derby on Monday night from T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
