Dodgers News: New RHP Alex Reyes Sets Timetable for Return From Injury
Before his injury, Alex Reyes was looking to be one of the strongest pitchers in the game.
In his 2021 season, he held a 10-8 record with 29 saves and a 3.24 ERA including a career-high 95 strikeouts earning him an All-Star nod.
But last May, he underwent right shoulder surgery and didn't pitch all 2022 season.
In November he became a free agent and just last week, the Dodgers signed him the 28-year-old closer to a $1.1 million contract that includes performance bonuses and a team option for 2024.
A low-risk high-reward deal as long as he's able to make an appearance this upcoming season. Luckily, that becomes more and more likely.
This week, Reyes sat down with Dodgers Nation's Doug McKain and gave him a timeline for his upcoming season in LA:
Reyes' time in the major leagues has been short but successful as he spent all five of his seasons with St. Louis.
In his rookie season back in 2016, he posted a 1.57 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 46 innings of work. He posts a 2.86 ERA across his career and a 16-11 record with 31 saves out of 36 opportunities.
The Dodgers bullpen right now hasn't named a closer after the departure of Craig Kimbrel but will the addition of Alex Reyes, they might have found a solution for the latter half of the season.
The Dodgers kicked off Spring training this Saturday as they faced the Brewers in Maryvale. Michael Grove took the mound for the team's first game of the year.
