Dodgers News: Outfielder Trayce Thompson Playing for Great Britain in WBC

The outfielder will be representing Great Britain in international play for the first time in his career.

Trayce Thompson is another Dodger player that will be representing Team Great Britain in the 2023 WBC.

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya tweeted the news this week:

Because Thompson’s father, Mychal Thompson is from the Bahamas, the outfielder is eligible to play for the British team. Although the Commonwealth of the Bahamas has been governmentally independent since 1973, it still recognizes England’s King Charles III as its monarch and is connected to Great Britain in that manner.

This will be the first time that the 31-year-old will be representing Great Britain in international play.

Trayce will be competing against other Pool C teams including the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia. The opening-round games begin in Phoenix and then the two top teams will play in the quarterfinals in Miami.

The Los Angeles native is in his second stint with the Dodgers after initially joining the team after a trade back in 2015. In 2022, the outfielder played in 74 games and posted a .268 batting average while slugging .537, and also had a .901 OPS.

Thompson is currently the only MLB player on the GB roster although he will be joined by other players with big-league experience such as Chris Reed, Akeel Morris, Michael Roth, and Vance Worley.
