The Los Angeles Dodgers had high hopes for the return of right-handed pitcher Ryan Pepiot this season, but unfortunately, their wait is going to be much longer than expected. Pepiot suffered an oblique injury just days before the start of the season, despite securing a role as the team's number five starter in the rotation.

It's been a series of letdowns for the rookie since then.

According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Pepiot was shut down from his most recent ramp up and has yet to pick up a baseball again. Doc shared the latest with reporters at Dodger Stadium.

"I think he was getting better, but there's still something there with the oblique, with the rib. We're a ways out."

Considering the right-hander hasn't even started a throwing program, a post All-Star Game break is an absolute best case scenario.

It's undoubtedly disappointing for the rookie to essentially lose a season. However, the Dodgers are also really feeling the impact of his absence. The club was relying on him to be a big contributor this year. With Pepiot sidelined, the Dodgers were have had to turn to minor league prospects like Bobby Miller and Gavin Stone earlier than anticipated. Miller has thankfully worked out phenomenally so far.

Pepiot showed promise last season, going 3-0 with a 3.47 ERA in nine games (seven starts).

Pepiot could potentially return and provide some valuable innings later in the season, but it's impossible to rely on him for much more than that.
