Dodgers News: Slugger JD Martinez Thanks Key Figures That Helped Him Get to 300 Homers
With a no-hitter leading into the sixth inning against the Rockies, it wasn't just the "KerShow" we were watching last night as Dodgers DH, J.D. Martinez, hit two homers in a 5-0 win in Colorado, accumulating his 299th and 300th career homers at Coors Field on Tuesday.
His first home run of the game, No. 299, came off of Rockies Starter, Connor Seabold, in the third inning, and his 300th came off of reliever, Brad Hand, in the sixth.
Martinez became the 156th member of the 300-home run club, joining Dodgers teammate, Freddie Freeman, who completed the feat last month.
After his two homers in Tuesday's win, Martinez had lots to say to those who helped him reach this feat in the postgame presser.
“Honestly, from where I started, with my whole story of getting released by Houston and getting the chance, an opportunity, with Detroit, and them believing in me, and the help of Craig (Wallenbrock, hitting instructor) and Robert (Van Scoyoc, Dodgers’ hitting coach) kind of changing my whole career. It means a lot to us."
The Dodgers showed a lot of love towards the veteran DH, and fans were ecstatic to see the boys in blue playing well, especially after the rough month of June they've been having.
The two homers continue to help J.D. Martinez's case for the National League All-Star vote as the team's starting DH, a position he is trying to grab from Nationals' power-hitter, Bryce Harper.
One thing to point out, hitting two homers against different-handed pitchers is not easy. But for Martinez, he made it look simple.
Congratulations J.D.! Here's to 300 more!
