Dodgers News: Walker Buehler 'Faces' PGA Superstar Jon Rahm in Rehab At-Bat
In the next step to his rehab after Tommy John Surgery, Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler was spotted getting some work in this weekend.
On an Instagram post, Buehler pitched to an unlikely batter in PGA Tour golfer Jon Rahm in the proverbial box, training up his arm for a hopeful major league return.
The 27-year-old righty had a down 2022 season before leaving a June start against the Giants with what was described as an elbow issue.
Unfortunately for Buehler, the hurler needed a second Tommy John surgery as he underwent the procedure once before in his career in 2015.
A key cog in the Dodgers' rotation, Buehler has had a pension for turning up his play when the lights are the brightest.
Come playoff time, the righty always seems to show up on the biggest stages and dominate batters when the leverage is highest.
In Game 3 of the 2020 World Series, Buehler twirled 6 innings with 10 punchouts against the Tampa Bay Rays and gave LA a crucial victory for their first championship in 32 years up to that point.
Buehler's own recovery has been a long road and many doubters wonder if the hurler will be able to reach the levels we've seen before.
Though this most recent step is quite encouraging, the Dodgers also don't want to rush the health and production of their pitcher for no good reason.
With additions at the deadline in Lance Lynn as well as fan favorites Joe Kelly and Kiké Hernández, the early returns on investment on these pieces have the Dodgers poised for another NL West crown already.
Should Buehler make enough progress to become either a spot starter or a long reliever in the postseason for LA, that can only improve their pursuits of another title.
