Sometimes the best trade of all is the trade that a team doesn't make. Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler recently said on the Just Baseball Show that he was almost moved in a trade deadline move a few years back and this is a prime example of that.

Buehler said that he was almost shipped out in a one-for-one type of deal for former Texas Rangers and now San Diego Padres pitcher, Yu Darvish.

Man this is interesting and probably news to Dodger fans. Buehler has since become one of the better pitchers in the game and was a major part of the team winning the World Series in 2020.

Looking back, fans are likely happy that the team didn't end up moving Buehler for Darvish. However, it just goes to show you that truly any prospect is on the block to give a team a better chance at a title.

LA did end up acquiring Darvish from Texas but gave up prospects Willie Calhoun, Brandon Davis and AJ Alexy. With Darvish in the mix, the Dodgers reached the 2017 World Series but ended up losing to the Houston Astros in seven games. Darvish was at the center of that as he started Game 7 for LA and was rocked from the beginning.

It came out later that the Astros were cheating during the World Series so the hate that Darvish received started to fade.

As for Buehler, he's still recovering from Tommy John Surgery this season but has expressed a hope to return at some point in September. If he can, it would be a massive boost to this Dodgers team, but they may be cautious and keep him out until next season. Either way, Buehler has been more vocal while he recovers and we all gain from that.

This is interesting news and it makes you wonder what other deals were discussed that never actually came to fruition for the Dodgers. Luckily, Buehler was never moved.
