Dodgers Reportedly Looking to Poach Blake Snell From NL West Rival
The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to be all in on starting pitching. It’s been since... never that the Dodgers have signed a free-agent pitcher (outside of one) to a contract longer than three years under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.
That needs to change, and it needs to change this offseason. By all indications, it will, as LA doesn't lack any resources in that department. The only question is, "Who will it be?" There are a ton of options to choose from, and the NL Cy Young winner could sit at the top of that list.
It was announced that Padres lefty ace Blake Snell was awarded the NL Cy Young for the 2023 season, and LA has a good chance to sign him, at least according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.
"Right now, we're looking at the Padres, the Dodgers, who I just referred needing pitching and the Giants. So I think the Giants, Padres and Dodgers all in on him."
According to Bookies.com, the Boys in Blue hold the best odds to sign the lefty veteran with +300 odds, followed by the Seattle Mariners at +325 and the Padres at +475.
Snell is coming off his best season since winning the AL Cy Young award in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays. The 30-year-old had a second-best 2.25 ERA in 180 innings pitched, a career-high 234 strikeouts, an 182 ERA +, and a 1.18 WHIP in 32 starts in 2023.
This would be a huge grab for the Dodgers if they are able to get Snell out of San Diego; however, the competition will be fierce, and there could be other players out there who may be a better fit in LA.
