Dodgers Rookie Miguel Vargas Sustained Injury During Practice

This is not ideal.
In this story:

Dodgers top rookie prospect Miguel Vargas has come down with an injury in spring training. Vargas reportedly took a ground ball off his pinkie finger on his right hand, and suffered a hairline fracture that will keep him from swinging the bat for a few days.

Vargas will reportedly still be able to field, which is very important for him as he continues to learn and improve at second base. Then, as the pain subsides, he'll get back to swinging the bat.

You never want to see an injury in spring training, especially to someone who's competing for regular playing time. Hopefully this just keeps Vargas sidelined for a few days, and he's able to get back to his normal spring training routine soon.

The Dodgers first game of spring is Saturday, Feb. 25, but I don't think it really matters whether Vargas is in there or not. The team just wants to make sure that injury is fully healed come Opening Day, so they'll likely be extra cautious with him.

But, it does sound like this injury shouldn't impact him for more than a few days, and he'll be back to normal sooner rather than later.
