A bit of housekeeping out of the Dodgers organization on Monday. According to the minor league transactions page, right-handed pitcher Max Gamboa has voluntarily retired from the game.

Hat tip to MiLB-Transactions for the news on Twitter.

Gamboa was an 18th round draft pick by the Dodgers out of Pepperdine in the 2017 MLB draft. The now 27-year-old made it as high as Double-A in 2021 where he pitched in just 3 games, allowing 1 earned run over 5.1 innings. Over parts of 4 minor league seasons, the 6'5" hurler went 13-12 with a 5.19 ERA over 73 games and 168.1 innings.

The 2017 draft was probably one of LA's weaker efforts of the last few years. Of the 31 players the Dodgers signed that year, only 5 have made it to the big leagues. 2017 first round pick Jeren Kendall also just recently announced his retirement from baseball.

Best of luck goes out to Gamboa in his post playing career!
