Dodgers Roster News: Mookie Betts Returns From Paternity List While Evan Phillips Heads to It
The Dodgers get their $365 million man back for the start of the Cubs series! Mookie Betts rejoins the active roster after being away for the last two games following the birth of his second child. There was some concern that he wouldn't make game one after he didn't travel with the team on Wednesday, but he flew out on his own on Thursday afternoon.
Mookie is just the headliner in a series of moves the team made on Thursday. While Betts returns from paternity, reliever Evan Phillips heads out on paternity leave.
In corresponding moves, the Dodgers optioned infielder Yonny Hernandez to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Hernandez went 0-1 in a pinch hitting appearance yesterday afternoon in Los Angeles.
The 25-year-old is hitting .308 at AAA so far this season.
For Phillips, Andre Jackson returns after series hiatus. He's had an up and down few games for LA so far in 2023, with his worst game coming last weekend where he allowed 5 earned runs, 4 on solo homers to the Cubs.
One More Mookie Note
There's a chance we see the Gold Glove right fielder make his first ever appearance at shortstop some time in this series against the Cubs.
Betts is hitting .266 this season with 2 home runs, 6 RBI, and a .843 OPS in 17 games.
