Dodgers Rumors: Angels Linked to Long Time Infield Target for LA
While the Dodgers first priority this offseason will be upgrading their starting rotation, the team does have other areas that could use some work. The front office has decisions to make on how to build a more complete roster, and the work will be getting started here soon.
It seems that the cross-town Los Angeles Angels are giving serious consideration to a long-time target of the Dodgers this offseason. That would be infielder Tim Anderson, who didn’t have his contract picked up by the Chicago White Sox earlier this winter. MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on the interest.
“The Angels are expressing strong interest in shortstop Tim Anderson, who was cut loose by the White Sox, and could convert him to second base.”
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today
Anderson has long been coveted by the Dodgers, and the two have been linked together often. LA does have a chance where they could upgrade their infield, so the Angels being in the mix could complicate that.
It’s unknown if the Dodgers are even interested in bringing the former All-Star in for next season, but he could serve as a cheap, low-risk player for the team. He had a down year in 2023, hitting .245 with just one home run and 25 runs batted in.
Anderson could be looking for a prove-it style of contract for the 2024 season, to then reenter the market when he has played better. The Dodgers would fit that bill a little better than the Angels, and Anderson may be more interested in playing for a contending team after all his years with the White Sox.
He has been known as a player who brings an edge to the table, and the Dodgers could use more of that. Anderson is a fiery player, who has lifted his teams in the past with his fierce emotions in games, but it has also gotten him into trouble as well.
The Dodgers could make a play for Anderson, but the Angels may be more willing to overpay to get him in the building. They need to build their roster out much more so than LA, so it could see them trying to sign the former All-Star more aggressively.
