Dodgers Rumors: Cardinals Remain Prime Trade Partner for LA
We're 12 days away from the trade deadline and the Dodgers find themselves as active buyers on the market. But, with the new playoff formatting where so many teams can make "postseason" baseball, the teams who are selling are harder to come by. By the way, the quotes are meant to belittle the three wild card teams per league.
Each team's winning streak or losing streak around the league could affect things for the Aug. 1 deadline. And, seeing the St. Louis Cardinals rattling off 6 wins in a row seemingly throws a wrench in the plans of several teams, including the Dodgers.
Thankfully, MLB insider Bob Nightengale says that St. Louis is sticking to the plan. They will still be selling. And the club's roster is flush with intriguing trade options.
There are teams that are clear sellers at this year's trade deadline, but few have actually good players expected to be available. Of the clubs that should be most active, the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals have the best available talent and both are looked at as the best trade partners for the Dodgers.
Noah Camras opined on DodgersNation.com that the Cardinals are likely the best of the two clubs. With pitchers like Jack Flaherty, Jordan Montgomery, and Jordan Hicks, the Dodgers could reload a pitching staff that has struggled up and down the roster at times this season.
Moreover, position players like Tyler O'Neill and Tommy Edman would be nice additions to an offense that could use one more bat for a postseason run.
And, let's not pass on the possibility of adding Nolan Arenado as a game changing boost.
If the Dodgers plan to focus on adding to pitching, then maybe the White Sox are the better trade partner. But if the front office is looking to make upgrades all over the roster, then the Cardinals better be on speed dial.
