For many years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to Lucas Giolito. This offseason the right-hander is a free agent, and the Dodgers need to remake their starting rotation.

MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand recently identified the long-time White Sox starter as a likely offseason target for LA.

No one envisions Giolito as an ace, but he is considered an innings eater. After his trade to the Angels, he performed disastrously posting a 6.89 ERA in six starts. The Angels put him on the waivers at the end of August and the Cleveland Guardians claimed the pitcher off waivers.

In the 2023 season, Giolito has 7 wins and 12 losses with a 4.88 ERA and 168 strikeouts. In 28 starts, he has pitched 156.2 innings. While his statistics aren’t impressive, he is a serviceable journeyman. He can be a quality third or fourth starter. He won’t get a top-notch multiyear lucrative contract. He might get a 3-year $60 million deal.

The Dodgers’ starting rotation is in flux. Walker Buehler was shut down in his return attempt this season but figures to lead the rotation next year, one offseason further removed from his second Tommy John surgery.

Clayton Kershaw may retire or choose to sign with the Texas Rangers. That's a reality Dodgers fans must face at this point in his career.

After this week's bombshell involving Julio Urías, the likelihood of the Dodgers re-signing Urías is none.

The Dodgers must decide whether they want to pick up Lance Lynn’s $18 million option. Except for his start against the Atlanta Braves, Lynn has performed well as a Dodger.

The Dodgers have Ryan Pepiot, Bobby Miller, Emmet Sheehan, Michael Grove, and Gavin Stone knocking on the door of the starting rotation.

The Dodgers may want a 29-year-old Giolito to have a veteran who can pitch at least six innings a start.
