Dodgers Rumors: Free Agent Pitching Target Drops Important Update
As the Dodgers enter into the offseason, they have a clear need for an upgrade in their starting rotation. They pushed through on a weak rotation this past season, and it came back to bite them in the postseason.
Now the team is expected to be aggressive in upgrading the starters this winter, and they should be looking to add at least one front-line starter. They also could use one or two other lower-tier types of guys as well.
One name that LA could look into is one that they are quite familiar with, starter Eduardo Rodriguez of the Detroit Tigers. He was a member of the Dodgers for about two seconds at the trade deadline but decided to enforce his veto power to block the deal to Los Angeles.
But now with Rodriguez entering free agency, he is letting teams know that there are no geographical restrictions for him this time around. This likely clears up some questions that teams had about Rodriguez, and it could make sense for the Dodgers to check in with him.
LA liked him enough to trade for him at the deadline, it just didn’t pan out for them. So, they could go after him again, and this time it could end up with him becoming a member of the squad.
Rodriguez posted an ERA of 3.30 in 26 starts for the Tigers last season. He also posted a WHIP of 1.15 and added in 143 strikeouts over 153.2 innings of work.
If the team signed Rodriguez, it would need to be in addition to a higher-tiered guy. Rodriguez alone, or him being the front-line starter wouldn’t be good enough for the Dodgers if they are serious about upgrading the rotation this winter.
LA has plenty of options when it comes to building out their rotation, with Rodriguez being one of them. This will be something to monitor as the winter continues on.
