As we get closer to the MLB trade deadline, rumors start flying. It’s smoke season for baseball, and it’s one of the better times of the year.

With that comes some truth, and the truth is that the Los Angeles Dodgers have some choices to make.

They have a need in their starting rotation and bullpen, but also, they need another solid right-handed bat. If that bat happens to play an infield position, such as third base, then even better.

One name that could be available is St. Louis Cardinals star third baseman Nolan Arenado. St. Louis has had a poor season, and the expectation is that they will try to be sellers at the deadline. They may want to hold onto their star infielder, but the Dodgers could also use him. ESPN's Alden Gonzalez wrote about Arenado's connection to LA.

"The Cardinals aren't expected to trade Arenado at the moment, but the Dodgers have the type of young talent -- particularly pitching -- to sway teams in a situation like this. Arenado has a full no-trade clause, but he grew up in Southern California and the expectation is that he would waive it for a team like the Dodgers."

LA has the prospects needed to swing a trade for Arenado, but it takes two to tango, and right now St. Louis doesn't seem like they want to deal him.

On the season, Arenado is hitting .291 with 21 home runs and 76 runs batted in. He made the National League All-Star team once again this season, and he could provide some real pop into the Dodgers already strong lineup.

If the team were to acquire Arenado, they would solve their issue at third base for the next few seasons. He is owed a bit of money for the duration of his contract but the salary hit does go down each year.

"The Dodgers have long been enamored of Arenado, 32, and they see third base as a need they'll have to address in the offseason given their present construction"

Dodger fans have wanted Arenado in blue for quite some time now. He has been linked to LA since his days with the Colorado Rockies due to his roots in Southern California. Arenado would be a home run type get for LA, but it remains to be seen if the Dodgers want to make that big of a splash.
