Dodgers Rumors: Insider Pieces Together Potentially Insane Nolan Arenado Trade

This would be the blockbuster of all blockbusters.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly in trade talks with the St. Louis Cardinals surrounding Nolan Arenado and more, Jorge Castillo of the LA Times reported on Thursday.

The fit is obvious, and I wrote a ton about Arenado coming home to LA here, but Castillo made some very interesting points with some fresh news on the situation.

Castillo said that the Dodgers are very much interested in Arenado, along with a top starting pitcher — potentially Jack Flaherty or Jordan Montgomery.

On the flip side, the Dodgers would have to give up quite the haul, including a young pitcher — such as Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, Ryan Pepiot or Emmet Sheehan — and one of or both Max Muncy and Chris Taylor.

Now this is a ton to take in, but again, if you want to read about the Arenado fit, you can click here. Additionally, if you want to read a little about Flaherty's fit, another SoCal kid, you can click here.

But in this article, let's focus on the Dodgers side of things.

The Dodgers farm system is full of young, up-and-coming starting pitchers. They'd love to hold onto all of them, but that's just both unrealistic and unhelpful for a team looking to contend as soon as right now.

The Dodgers likely see Miller as untouchable, and Stone is likely up there, too. But Pepiot and Sheehan, as well as Michael Grove, would all be young starters the Dodgers should be more than happy to deal to get a blockbuster package like Arenado and Flaherty.

As for the next part, Taylor is on a horrible contract. While he's had some nice moments for LA this year, he's more than expendable.

For Muncy, the Dodgers love him and he loves being in LA, but if they could get an upgrade like Arenado, they probably wouldn't bat an eye.

The best-case scenario for the Dodgers, in my opinion, would be a package involving Pepiot, Grove and Taylor, allowing them to keep Muncy and move him to second base while Arenado takes over the hot corner.

Arenado has negative trade value on baseball trade values due to his contract, but don't expect the Cardinals to treat him as a negative player in the trade.

The Dodgers are going to need to give up some pieces for Arenado, but it sounds like they could be in serious talks to bring him home to Los Angeles.

This would be the blockbuster deal that puts LA into World Series favorite level.
